Diogo Jota, the Liverpool and lusitanian footballer, has tragically died in a car crash at the age of 28. Jota, who was in the car with his brother Andre Silva, unfortunately lost his life after losing control of the vehicle in the Spanish province of Zamora. Fresh details have emerged which claim that the Lamborghini, which Jota was driving, skidded off the road due to a tyre blow-out while overtaking another vehicle and then caught fire, reported the BBC.
Jota died about 00:30 local time, the Guardian Civil added. Jota played a big role in Liverpool winning the Premier League title last season and also participated in the Nations League, which Portugal won by defeating Spain in the final.

"The Portuguese Football Federation (FPT) and all of Portuguese football are completely devastated," said Pedro Proenca, head of the FPT.
"Much more than an amazing player, with almost 50 international appearances, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all team-mates and opponents, someone with an infectious joy and a reference in the community itself."
Diogo, hailing from Lisbon, kicked off his football career in the youth system of Boavista before catching the eye of Sevilla FC, joining them in 2015. Shortly after, he was loaned to Sporting CP for the 2016/17 season, followed by a temporary move to Newcastle United in the English Premier League for 2018/19.
Despite signing with Sevilla, he never played a single match in La Liga for them, but his sharp goal-scoring ability led to a permanent transfer to Newcastle.
His career truly soared after moving to Manchester City. Under Pep Guardiola’s guidance, Diogo became instrumental in clinching the EFL Cup and Community Shield, cementing his place as a vital part of City’s dynamic attack. In the 2024/25 season, he played a starring role in Manchester City’s Premier League title win under new coach Ruben Amorim. On the international front, Diogo shone for Portugal, contributing to their victories in the UEFA European Championship in 2020 and 2024.
At 27, his clever movement, tireless work rate, and ability to deliver in clutch moments have made him one of Portugal’s most dependable strikers.
