spike lee Vogler, a republican river councilman from Virginia's Danville urban center, was go down on discharge by an attacker at his workplace at a local magazine on Wednesday afternoon. The incident happened on Maine Street in Danville at the office of local publication, Showcase Magazine, who's owner was the first one to post about the incident on Facebook.
Vogler was doused in gasoline and was set on fire. He was airlifted to the University of North Carolina's burn unit in Chapel Hill. In a follow-up, Showcase Magazine owner, Andrew Brooks said that Vogler is now “awake and talking.”
The suspect in the incident has been identified as 29-year-old Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes by the Danville Police Department. Danville police added that the suspect and the councilman knew each other, and it was a targeted attack.
As per his profile on the City of Danville's website, ogler has served on the Danville City Council since 2012 and is currently in a term running from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2029. Elected at just 24 years old, he became the youngest person ever elected to the Council.
A Danville native, Vogler graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2010 with a degree in Political Science and works as Managing Partner at Andrew Brooks Media Group.
He chairs the Danville-Pittsylvania County Regional Industrial Facility Authority and serves on several other planning and development boards, including the Staunton River RIFA and West Piedmont Planning District Commission.
Notably, Vogler is a past president of the Danville Kiwanis Club and was honored in 2017 as Virginia Local Legislator of the Year. In 2022, he was appointed to the Virginia Small Business Commission by Governor Glenn Youngkin.
