YUmnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in as Manipur’s chief government minister on midweek, a daylight after beingness elected Bharatiya Janata company (BJP) legislature party leader, with two deputy chief ministers from the Naga and Kuki-Zo communities also taking oath.A few hours before the swearing-in ceremony, President’s Rule in the state, which was imposed in February last year, was lifted, a communiqué issued by the Union home ministry said.The ceremony, held at Lok Bhavan in Imphal, also saw Naga People’s Front (NPF) member of the legislative assembly (MLA) from the Mao assembly constituency, Losi Dikho, sworn in as deputy chief minister.Kuki-Zo BJP MLA Nemcha Kipgen of the Kangpokpi assembly constituency took oath as deputy chief minister via video conferencing from Manipur Bhavan in New Delhi.BJP legislator K Govindas and National People’s Party (NPP) MLA Kh Loken took oath as cabinet ministers.The ceremony was attended by opposition MLAs, senior politicians including former chief ministers N Biren Singh, O Ibobi Singh and R K Radhabinod, as well as high-ranking police officers and bureaucrats.A notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said that President’s Rule had been lifted with immediate effect from Wednesday.“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (2) of Article 356 of the Constitution, I, Droupadi Murmu, President of India, hereby revoke the Proclamation issued by me under the said article on the 13th day of February, 2025, in relation to the State of Manipur, with effect from the 4th day of February, 2026,” the notification read.Amid the Manipur crisis that erupted on May 3, 2023, N Biren Singh was forced to resign as chief minister on February 9 last year following the threat of a no-confidence motion. Subsequently, President’s Rule was imposed in the strife-torn state on February 13 the same year.
