The three-time Olympic bronze medallist had to be taken off the course on a stretcher after a crash during the tail end of training, around 10:45 p.m. Local time on Wednesday.
In a statement from the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), McMorris will undergo follow-up testing to determine whether he will compete in snowboard big air qualification on Thursday.
"As a precaution, [McMorris] was assisted off the slope and taken to the hospital with Canada Snowboard and Canadian Olympic Committee medical staff for evaluation. He has since been released and is back at the Olympic Village with the team’s medical staff," the COC statement read.
"Mark will undergo routine follow-up testing today to help determine his availability for tonight’s Snowboard Big Air qualification, with a decision expected by 4 p.m. [local time]. He is feeling good and appreciates the support and well wishes from fans."
Milano-Cortina marks the fourth Olympic Games for the 32-year-old McMorris. The Regina native is no stranger to big crashes.
He suffered life-threatening injuries after slamming into a tree during a backcountry ride in 2017. McMorris has had a rod placed in his leg, a plate in his arm and another in his jaw as the result of that and numerous other injuries he's endured over the years.
