The men’s downhill got underway at 11:30 a.m. Local time (5:30 a.m. ET). This is Canada’s first opportunity to capture a medal at the Milano-Cortina Olympics.
Canada’s Jack Crawford was the Canadian medal hopeful heading into today. The 28-year-old is off the podium with a time of 1:52.58. He’s 1.39 seconds behind the leader.
Crawford posted the fastest time in the final training run on Friday, but couldn’t find his line today. He was ahead in the top sections, but got pushed off line further down the Stelvio that cost him some time.
The track in Bormio is 3.4 kilometres long and can be punishing for racers because there’s no flat section to give their legs a break. There’s also wind to contend with today, that’ll push racers into the back seat.
