We have to decide from which country we have to import, keeping our national interest in mind,” Naidu said. This came a day after Naidu said that India would not “yield to threats” on purchase of Russian oil.India's ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra on Sunday spoke to US senator Lindsey Graham, wherein they held a discussion on energy security. “Spoke to Senator @LindseyGrahamSC and shared with him the Indian perspective on our energy security, including increasing energy trade with the United States,” Kwatra said in a post on X. This comes a day after Graham urged India to help end the war between Russia and Ukraine. "As I have been telling my friends in India, one of the most consequential things they could do to improve India-U.S. Relations is to help President Trump end this bloodbath in Ukraine," the senator said. Meanwhile, India is considering tariff countermeasures on certain United States goods in retaliation to the latter's punishing 50 per cent tariffs on steel, aluminium and their derivatives from India that it imposed in June, according to people aware of the matter.If India goes through with these countermeasures, it would be its first retaliation since Donald Trump announced a total of 50 per cent tariffs on India, half of which is a penalty for doing business with Russia.
