Maia Schwinghammer's family reacts to her qualifying for moguls final
Canada's Maia Schwinghammer qualified in 6th place, and will compete in Wednesday's final run.
Saskatoon's Maïa Schwinghammer, reigning world bronze medallist, has a shot at a medal in women's moguls today. Schwinghammer credits watching Jennifer Heil â Team Canadaâs chef de mission for Milano Cortina 2026 â winning silver in this event at Vancouver 2010 as the moment she knew she wanted to become an Olympian.
Should a Canadian medal today, she would become the first Canadian woman to land on the moguls podium at the Olympics since the Dufour-Lapointe sisters won gold and silver at Sochi 2014.Â
The event starts at 8:15 a.m. ET.
Ukrainian alpine skier Dmytro Shepiuk opened the palm of his hand toward the camera after finishing the men's super-G to reveal a note that read "UKR HEROES WITH US" scrawled in English.Â
The gesture appears to be an act of solidarity with his fellow Ukrainian competitor Vladyslav Heraskevych whose helmet honouring Ukrainian athletes killed in the war with Russia was banned from competition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The IOC said it violates an Olympic rule on political statements. But the skeleton racer told reporters in Italy on Tuesday that he still plans to wear it on race day.Â
Canada's Jack Crawford finishes 16th in super-G at Milano-Cortina Winter Games
Toronto's Jack Crawford is the top Canadian in the men's Olympic super-G.
Canada missed the podium in this challenging and bumpy super-G race at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio.Â
Jack Crawford finished 16th with a time of 1:26.85. Cameron Alexander is right behind him in 17th with 1:26.87. Brodie Seger lands 22nd at 1:27.08, while his brother Riley Seger gets a DNF for skiing off course â which we saw quite a few times today on this course with tight gates and tight lines.
Switzerland's Franjo von Allmen claims third gold at Milano Cortina 2026 with super-G victory
Franjo von Allmen of Switzerland finishes first in the men's super-G to earn his third gold medal at the Milano-Cortina Winter Games
Franjo von Allmen wins gold at 1:25.32, becoming the first male alpine skier to win three gold medals in a single Winter Games in 58 years.
Switzerland holds the record for most gold medals in alpine skiing in a single Games when they won five at Beijing 2022.
American Ryan Cochran-Siegle wins silver at 1:25.45, and third is von Allmen's teammate Marco Odermatt at 1:25.60.
Amid the competition at Milano Cortina, members of Team Canada are also grappling with news of the shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., where at least 10 people have been killed, including six inside a high school.
The Canadian Olympic Committee has issued the following statement:
"We are heartbroken by the news of the horrific school shooting that occurred in British Columbia. Our thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones, those who are injured, and the entire Tumbler Ridge community. Team Canada stands with everyone affected as they navigate difficult days ahead."
Von Allmen is sitting comfortably in the lead in men's super-G in Bormio, Italy â with only a handful of racers left to go.Â
He's so comfortable that he started to apply sunscreen to his face in the leader box. It's currently a balmy -1 C and sunny in Bormio today.Â
Von Allmen has a very desirable lead here, with a time of 1:25.32.
Franjo von Allmen has been sitting in first for a while now. Von Allmen has been one of the breakout stars of alpine skiing at these Games. The 24-year-old Swiss racer captured gold in the menâs downhill.
Just 48 hours later, he and Swiss teammate Tanguy Nef won gold in the men's team combined.
If he gets gold in this super-G, he could join Austrian Toni Sailer, in 1956, and France's Jean-Claude Killy, in 1968, as one of the select few male skiers to win three Olympic golds in a single Winter Games.
Crawford is now off the podium. Odermatt sits in third.Â
Crawford just had his super-G run, with a time of 1:26.85. The Canadian is in second behind France's Nils Allègre, but that could change with several skiers left to go. A few other Canadian men are racing at the Stelvio course in Bormio today: Cameron Alexander, Brodie Seger and Riley Seger.
Toronto's Jack Crawford posts the fastest time in final men's downhill training run
Toronto's Jack Crawford was the fastest in the final men's downhill training run in Bormio, Italy, posting a time of one minute 54.95 seconds, ahead of Saturday's gold medal race.
Jack Crawford was the world champion in the super-G in 2023 and has reached some notable landmarks in his career, including a bronze in the menâs alpine combined in Beijing 2022 and a downhill World Cup victory at the legendary Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel, Austria, in January 2025. Can the 28-year-old from Toronto pull out all the stops for a podium finish here?Â
The big favourite in this race is Switzerland's Marco Odermatt, current super-G world champion and the dominant menâs alpine skier in the world today â and he'll be eager to win his first Olympic medal in this event.
Good morning, I'm Verity â a writer in Montreal. Canada has several medal opportunities today and some up-and-coming stars competing in some exciting events, including in the Olympic debut for women's luge doubles.
Here's what to watch for:
In figure skating, the ice dance free skate is at 1:30 p.m. ET. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier will compete, as will Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac â who competed for France at PyeongChang 2018 â and Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha.
