Team Canada has made it to the medal rounds in the speed skating women's team pursuit competition.

The Olympic record-setting trio of Isabelle Weidemann, Ivanie Blondin and Valérie Maltais are sitting in first heading into the semifinals.

They looked relaxed in the final heat, led by tall Weidemann, starting off slow and gaining speed in the last laps to cruise into the top spot.

Norwegian and French dominance continues in the women's 7.5-kilometre sprint.

The two countries have won gold in every biathlon event in these Games so far.

Today, the 7.5-km sprint saw Norway's Marena Kirkeeide win gold, France's Océane Michelon take silver and teammate Lou Jeanmonnot claiming bronze — her third medal of the Games.

Jeanmonnot won silver in the 15-kilometre individual and mixed-relay gold.

Team Canada finished far off the podium in the challenging event. Benita Peiffer ended up 56th and Nadia Moser was 61st, improving on her 66th spot in the15-kilometre; Pascale Paradis was 67th and Shilo Rousseau 80th.

Next up in women's biathlon is the 10-kilometre pursuit, tomorrow.

Canada is racing in the speed skating women's team pursuit quarterfinals shortly.

Ivanie Blondin, Valérie Maltais, Isabelle Weidemann will be on ice, while Béatrice Lamarche is on hand as a substitute.

This same trio set the Olympic record at Beijing 2022 with a time of 2:53.44.

In team pursuit, three skaters from each team race together in near synchronicity. The team’s time is recorded when the third skater crosses the finish line.

We should have some lines shortly for today’s quarterfinal women's hockey match between Canada and Germany.

These two teams have not faced off in the Olympics before, but Canada is familiar with Germany from the world championship.

Their head coaches also know each other. Both Troy Ryan (Canada) and Jeff MacLeod (Germany) are from Nova Scotia.

One other thing to watch: Germany’s goaltender, Sandra Abstreiter, is the backup goaltender on the Montreal Victoire. Does that give her Montreal teammates Marie-Philip Poulin, Laura Stacey, Kati Tabin and Erin Ambrose an edge? Or does she have some insight into how to stop those shooters?

It’s win or go home time in this tournament, and it all gets started at 10:40 a.m. ET.

Olympic veteran Isabelle Weidemann said she was heading into Milano Cortina 2026 "with a veteran’s mindset," in a statement released by Speed Skating Canada when the Canadian team was unveiled last month.

Weidemann won three medals during her second Olympic appearance at Beijing 2022 — gold, ` silver and bronze. Those results led to her being chosen as Canada’s flag-bearer for the closing ceremony that year.

Speaking of Valentine's Day, there are many Olympic power couples, but it's rare they compete against each other. ™¥ï¸ðŸ‚

Well, tomorrow, Canadian snowboard cross silver medallist Éliot Grondin of Sainte-Marie, Que., will go head to head with his partner, gold medallist Josie Baff of Australia.

The mixed-team snowboard cross event starts, with the quarterfinals at 7:45 a.m. ET at the Livigno Snow Park.

Did we forget to note it's Valentine's Day? The athletes don't seem to have forgotten. 💕

They’ve raced through the free condom supply at the Games with trademark Olympic intensity — leaving dispensers empty, Reuters reports.

Some 10,000 prophylactics were distributed across the city and mountain accommodation sites, continuing the longstanding Olympic practice aimed at promoting safe relationships among mostly young, healthy and energetic competitors living in close quarters.

There are 2,800 athletes competing in this year's Games.

By Saturday, the stock had run out with just over a week of the sporting bonanza still to go, adding Milan to a long list of Games where demand has comfortably outstripped supply, a now almost routine ‌Olympic sub-plot.

"It is rule 62 of the Olympic Charter that we have to have a condoms story. Faster, higher, ‌stronger, together," IOC spokesperson Mark Adams said in a news conference.

Mialitiana Clerc, an alpine skier representing Madagascar, said there was nothing left in her accommodation.

"There were a lot of boxes at the entrance of every building where we were staying and every day, everything had  gone from the box," said Clerc. "I already know that a lot of people are using condoms, or giving them to their friends outside of the Olympics because it's a kind of gift for them."

Medals may be one measure of success, but it seems the athletes are finding other ways to thrive as well.

Poulin has been given the green light to lace up for Canada's quarterfinal against Germany, but head coach Troy Ryan says he'll manage her game-time minutes.

"I gotta take the feedback that she provides me. She's agreed to be open and just have discussions on the bench when need be."

Poulin said her knee was grabbed a little bit in the hit in the game against Czechia, which Canada won.

"It hurt. It still hurts, but it's part of it," the captain told reporters in the post-practice scrum yesterday

Captain Marie-Philip Poulin will be in the lineup when the Canadian women's hockey team faces off against Germany in the quarterfinal at 10:40 a.m. ET.

The 34-year-old had a medical assessment earlier today to clear her for play.

Poulin sat on the sidelines of the team's final two preliminary games — including a big loss to the U.S. €” earlier this week due to a knee injury from being hit in the game against Czechia on Monday.

She practised with the team yesterday. This marks the first time Canada will play Germany at the Winter Olympics.

For those invested in the team's pre-game warmup routine, Poulin's linemate and wife, Laura Stacey, won't be collecting Canada's pucks alone today.
