Canadian captain Sidney Crosby has left the ice after appearing to be in some discomfort, after a hard hit from Czechia's Radko Gudas.

We'll keep an eye on that situation.

As the second period begins, we'll be watching for any line shuffling from head coach Jon Cooper and his staff.

One line that looked great earlier in the tournament (in the short glimpse we had of it) was Macklin Celebrini, Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon. Could Cooper turn back to that line as he looks for some offence?

This is a first for Team Canada this tournament, as they end the first period trailing a heavy and aggressive Czech team 2-1.

It's the first taste of adversity for a Canadian men's hockey team that came into this game having outscored its opponents, 20-3.

Shots are 11-10 for Canada after 20 minutes.

I'm Briar Stewart, here at the rink.

Czechia fans are jubilant after the team pulled ahead while Canada was playing shorthanded after a Celebrini penalty.

Czechia has taken the lead on a power play goal against Canada, courtesy of a rocket from David Pastrňák from the circle. Macklin Celebrini was in the penalty box on an interference call.

Czechia leads 2-1 as we near the end of the first period. It's the first time Canada has trailed in this tournament.

Czech forward Lukas Sedlak has tied this quarterfinal game 1-1 about halfway through the first period.

The play started when the Czechs intercepted a cross-ice Canadian pass in the neutral zone.

Czechia's outshooting Canada 7-3 right now.

Canadian snowboarders Laurie Blouin and Juliette Pelchat finished fifth and ninth, respectively, in the slopestyle final.

Japan's Mari Fukada won gold, the first ever Olympic medal for the 19-year-old, after a flawless third run. Teammate Kokomo Murase won bronze, her second medal of these Games having won gold in the big air contest.

Japan has now won nine medals in snowboarding at these Games and ranks at the top for the most medals won in snowboarding at a single Olympic Games. The United States previously held that record after winning eight medals at Vancouver 2010.

The reigning Olympic champion from Beijing 2022, Zoi Sadowski-Synnott of New Zealand, won silver, her second medal of these Games. It was a re-match from the big air final where she also battled Murase for the title.

Put another one on the board for the teenager. Macklin Celebrini opened the scoring just a little over three minutes into this quarterfinal game, shooting the puck through a Czech player's legs.

It came off a bit of nice stick work from Connor McDavid.

It’s Celebrini's fifth goal in four games.

People who are old enough to remember the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan — the first Olympics with NHLers — might be haunted by memories of a Canada-Czech Republic quarterfinal match-up almost exactly 28 years ago.

That game finished tied 1-1. In the shootout, Canada controversially didn't call on Wayne Gretzky. The Czechs won 2-1 and the Canadians went home.

Canadians are hoping for a different outcome today.

Playoff-bound Brad Jacobs defeats Italy at Milano Cortina 2026

Brad Jacobs and his Calgary-based rink, who had already secured a spot in the Olympic semifinals, beats Italy's Joël Retornaz 8-3 in men's curling. Canada improves to 7-1 and won't finish lower than second place in round-robin play, while Italy falls to 4-4.

After a slow start, the Canadian men heated up and cruised to victory over Italy.

It's an 8-3 final and Canada is now 7-1 at the Olympics as the semifinals approach. One more round-robin game left.
