Canada's Blondin adds mass start silver medal to her bronze at Milano Cortina 2026
After claiming a silver medal four years ago in Beijing, Ottawa's Ivanie Blondin captured another mass start speed skating Olympic silver medal, this time at Milano Cortina 2026.
Ahead of the women's mass start final, Ivanie Blondin says she told Marijke Groenewoud — the Dutch skater who ended up winning gold ahead of her silver — that it would be their "last dance."
It was Blondin's last race at what she has said would be her last Olympics.
Looking back at her career, Blondin said she's been described as feisty, then laughed, saying "people have probably put up with far too much." That trait has also been a motivator, she said.
"It's why I'm still here, still fighting for medals — and I'm proud of that," she said, adding she was also proud to hear she is inspiring a younger generation of skaters.
"I had the older generation that inspired my career and made me fight tooth and nail to get there. So if it inspires them to make it to the top, then let's go," she said.
Rachel Homan says she 'couldn't be prouder' of her rink after winning Olympic curling bronze
Rachel Homan and her Ottawa-based rink spoke with Bryan Mudryk after curling to an Olympic bronze medal at Milano Cortina 2026.
In her victory interview after winning the women's curling bronze, Rachel Homan looked satisfied and perhaps a little relieved.
"[We] struggled early, but it didn't matter," she said. "We stuck together, and I couldn’t be more proud of our fight. And to get a bronze medal and bring that home for Canada, there's just no better feeling."
Second Emma Miskew, who was on the Homan team that was eliminated early at the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics, said those who counted the Canadian women out after a slow start in Milano Cortina were too quick to judge.
"This one feels so sweet," said Miskew. "The fact that we were even in the semi — we had to win five sudden-death games in a row just to get there."
She added: "We said in the changeroom after we started … 'We’re going to keep playing until they tell us to leave.' And then we got to come home with a medal."
Finland has won Olympic men’s hockey bronze with a 6-1 victory over Slovakia.
The game felt a lot closer at the beginning of the third period, when Finland led by only 2-1, but a power play goal from Roope Hintz opened the floodgates for the team.
Finland now has five medals in Games featuring NHL players: silver (2006) and four bronze (1998, 2010, 2014 and 2026).
There was ultimately no change at the top of the standings after the final run of the two-women bobsleigh, with Germany's Laura Nolte and Deborah Levi repeating as Olympic champions ahead of compatriots Lisa Buckwitz and Neele Schuten.
Kaillie Armbruster Humphries and Jasmine Jones of the U.S. Held on for the bronze by just 0.15 seconds from Germany's Kim Kalicki and Talea Prepens.
Canada's teams finished around three seconds back, with top-placed Canadians Bianca Ribi and Skylar Sieben ending up in joint 11th place. Cynthia Appiah and Dawn Richardson Wilson placed 13th, while Melissa Lotholz and Kelsey Mitchell were 14th.
It marks Canada's worst finish in two-woman bobsleigh since the event was introduced at Salt Lake City 2002.
Speaking of gold medals... We checked. He's human.
"It's a lot of emotions that are going through your mind when you're doing the last 100 metres but, yeah, it couldn't be a better way to crown the Olympics with winning the 50K," Klæbo said.
The Norwegian athlete has won gold in all six events he competed in at these Games.
But the 50-kilometre race especially mattered to him.
"In Norway, we say that if you're going to become a man you need to win the 50K, and today we did," he said.
Canada's skip Brad Jacobs after winning curling gold medal, 'celebrating that win is so special'
Canada's men's curling team defeated Great Britain 9-6 to captured the gold medal at Milano Cortina 2026.
Jacobs said it was an honour to skip his team to gold in a white-knuckle win over Great Britain.
"I'm proud of the guys. I'm proud that we were able to hang in there throughout that whole game. To see the looks on their faces at the end, celebrating that win, is just special,” he said.
Jacobs won gold in 2014 skipping a different squad. It’s also the second Olympic gold for Marc Kennedy and Ben Hebert, who won in 2010 with skip Kevin Martin.
"I don't have many words. The feeling's crazy. Sixteen years ago we did it, and we did it again today,” said Hebert. “It feels great to be standing on top of the podium today.”
For Brett Gallant, today’s result tops the bronze he won with Brad Gushue’s Canada rink four years ago in Beijing.
A big cheer erupted at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium as Canada took the gold medal in men’s curling, in a game that went down to the final stone.
Leading by two, Jacobs nailed his final stone to pretty much close the door on Great Britain’s chance to score two to tie the game and send it to extra ends.
Mouat gave it a go for the Brits but couldn’t come up with the miracle. The match finished 9-6 and the gold goes to Canada!
Granite glory has been restored. Canada is back on top of the men's curling podium for the first time since 2014.
What a team. What a win.
Jacobs is now the first skip to win two Olympic gold medals and Kennedy is the most decorated Olympic curler of all time. (He won gold at Vancouver 2010 and bronze at Beijing 2022.)
OK, a lot happened in that excellent ninth end for Canada.
It started with second Gallant hitting two great shots to put the pressure on Britain. A missed double by Britain’s Grant Hardie, followed by a perfect take out and roll by Canada third Kennedy really tightened the screw, leaving Canada lying three.
Mouat then got only one of the Canadian stones on a double takeout attempt, and left a hit for Jacobs on the final stone of the end to potentially score four.
Jacobs made the hit for three to put Canada up 8-6.
These veteran Canadian curlers stayed patient. Then, they pounced on the Brits. It's a massive three in the ninth end and an 8-6 Canada lead. Here comes the finish.
