In Israel, people have been tense for most of February, watching the skies for falling missiles as they did last summer when Iran fired more than 100 drones at the country.

In June, Iran was less capable of hitting Israel's intelligence and military facilities, but it did cause dozens of deaths when it targeted residential areas — which is what it's doing now.

People are worried and running back to air raid shelters.

The Israeli army said dozens of missiles had been launched at the country by Iran over the course of Saturday.

Israel's rescue service, Magen David Adom, said a woman in the Tel Aviv area died after being injured in a missile strike. It said it had treated at least 90 people with light injuries across the country, as well as one man who was seriously injured.

Some airports in the Middle East have sustained damage as a result of the escalating violence.

Officials at Dubai International Airport, one of the world's busiest travel hubs, said four people were injured in an incident that caused minor damage to the airport, according to The Associated Press.

Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi said that one person was killed and seven others were injured in a drone strike. Strikes were also reported at Kuwait International Airport.

Hundreds of thousands of travellers were either stranded or diverted to other airports after Israel, Qatar, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain and the U.A.E. Closed their airspace because of the missile strikes, The Associated Press said.

A total of more than 1,800 flights by major Middle Eastern airlines were cancelled, the news service added.

Khamenei's daughter, grandchild, daughter-in-law and son-in-law were killed in U.S.-Israeli strikes, Iranian state media reports.

Every weekend for the past eight weeks, supporters of the movement against the Iranian regime have gathered in Vancouver.

But today’s rally, attended by thousands, is different.

Asal Golkar, who has family in Iran, says today is a celebration. She says her family called her early this morning to rejoice over the news that senior Iranian leadership had been killed in the U.S.-Israeli strikes.

"They couldn’t talk, they were dancing," she said. "We were very happy, all night celebrating, we couldn’t sleep."

"Everyone’s really excited for freedom, for justice, and everyone is really hopeful for the future," said attendee Niloofar Gharavi.

Many Iranian Canadians who attended the rally say they are pleased Prime Minister Mark Carney is backing the U.S.-Israeli actions.

The board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will convene a special session at its headquarters in Vienna on Monday morning following a request from Russia, the UN nuclear watchdog said in a news release.

In a diplomatic note dated Feb. 28 and seen by The Associated Press, Russia's Permanent Mission to the International Organizations in Vienna requested the convening of the special session "on matters related to military strikes of the United States and Israel against the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran that started in the morning of 28 February 2026, preceded by repeated open threats of such action, including against nuclear facilities under the IAEA safeguards."

The special session of the board of governors will take place before the already scheduled regular session of the board on Monday, the IAEA said.

If Iran has hidden those ballistic missiles that Israel and the U.S. Say they're so worried about — and they can use them over the next few days — Iran's threat to Israel and the rest of the region isn't going away.

That's what will determine how long this conflict is going to last.

Earlier today, Iran's ambassador to the UN told the UN Security Council that hundreds of civilians were killed Saturday, including more than a hundred children, as result of the attacks led by the United States and Israel.

"The aggression and atrocious crimes of the United States regime and the Israeli regime, and their deliberate and persistent targeting of civilian infrastructure, are ongoing," Amir Saeid Iravani said during the emergency session.

"This is not only an act of aggression; it is a war crime and a crime against humanity."

Iravani said that Iran is exercising its "inherent and lawful right" to self-defence by launching counterattacks.

Iranian Canadian lawyer on hope, uncertainty after U.S.-Israel attacks

Kaveh Shahrooz, an Iranian Canadian lawyer, human rights activist and senior fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, says he is among many who are feeling hopeful for positive change after Saturday's U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran, but he also believes there is currently no 'coherent opposition' that is ready to take power.

Kaveh Shahrooz, an Iranian-Canadian lawyer and human rights activist, said many in Iran and within the Iranian diaspora felt the country's regime was "simply too violent" to be overthrown without the help of foreign intervention.

That is why so many in the community are feeling hopeful today, he said.

While Shahrooz said he, too, is hopeful that the U.S.-Israel attacks will lead to positive change, there is currently no "coherent opposition" ready to take power.

Though some see Reza Pahlavi, the exiled former crown prince of Iran, as a potential future leader, Shahrooz said there are segments of the Iranian population who would dispute that — particularly among smaller ethnic groups.

"So if this regime is to fall, I think the different opposition groups really need to either sit together voluntarily, or be forced basically by outside forces to sit together, to come up with a plan, to come up with a coalition so that they can actually implement democracy on the ground."

We reported disruptions in the region earlier today, but now Air Canada has cancelled flights from Canada to Israel until March 8 and to Dubai until March 3.
