They gave no further information on where the casualties occurred or the names of the deceased.
"The situation is fluid, so out of respect for the families, we will withhold additional information, including the identities of our fallen warriors, until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified," U.S. Central Command said in a post on social media.
Maersk, one of the world's largest shipping companies, has suspended all vessel traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Suez Canal.
In a statement published on Sunday, Maersk confirmed its decision to reroute ships away from the Suez Canal, which connects the Mediterranean and Red seas, directing them instead around the Cape of Good Hope near the southern tip of South Africa.
The company said once the situation stabilizes and if conditions permit, it would continue to prioritize the Trans-Suez route for Middle East/India to Mediterranean Middle East/India to East Coast U.S. Services.
The move follows previous instability in the region, where Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen targeted vessels in the Bab el-Mandeb and the Red Sea in 2024 and 2025.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that diplomacy remains "the most rational path forward" during a telephone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
According to a statement, Erdogan also extended his well‑wishes to Saudi Arabia and warned that, without decisive action, the conflict could escalate with "serious consequences for both regional and global security."
Pope Leo XIV said Sunday that he was "profoundly concerned" by the U.S. And Israeli strikes on Iran, and called on the countries to "stop the spiral of violence before it becomes an irreparable abyss."
Another vessel has come under attack in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a British military agency.
The Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf between Iran and Oman, has been important throughout history for trade, with ceramics, ivory, silk and textiles moving from China through the region.
One-fifth of all the world's oil passes through the strait, and most of the oil and gas moving through it goes to markets in Asia.
The U.K. Maritime Trade Operations Centre said the attack took place off the United Arab Emirates' Mina Saqr.
The agency reported the vessel was struck by a projectile that ignited a fire. The flames were extinguished, and the vessel is expected to continue its journey.
It follows an attack on another vessel in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Iran, according to The Associated Press. These attacks have taken place amid reports that Iranian officials have been using radio broadcasts to threaten vessels travelling through the strait.
The United States has confirmed using one-way drones for the first time in combat. It seems they got the idea from, of all countries, Iran.
Iran was among the first to mass produce and use kamikaze drones, called Shahed-136, to fly into a target and explode. The Russians bought them from Iran, and have used them extensively and lethally against the Ukrainians.
The Americans got ahold of a Shahed and reverse-engineered it to produce their own LUCAS or Low-cost Unmanned Combat Attack System.
Priced at a fraction the cost of any missile, they can be directed to fly to a specific target, or fly near to a potential target and loiter in the area until the right moment.
One other major risk with drones is at sea. Warships are easily able to shoot down one or two incoming threats, but a swarm of hundreds of cheap, small drones from all sides would present a significant risk. Close-in weapons systems could essentially machine-gun most — but not all — of them out of the sky.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced Sunday that a new leadership council "has begun its work," as other high-ranking officials promised retribution, according to the Associated Press.
"You have crossed our red line and must pay the price," Iran's parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said in a televised address on Sunday. "We will deliver such devastating blows that you yourselves will be driven to beg."
Emergency response groups including Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah are on site in Beit Shemesh, west of Jerusalem.
The agencies have posted images showing a wide swath of destruction and rescue operations. An MDA spokesperson said 28 people were sent to hospital and there were eight deaths.
Those numbers are likely to change. Several buildings appear to have been heavily damaged. A number of alerts were issued for incoming missile threats in the area.
The North Korean Foreign Ministry on Sunday denounced the joint U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran, describing the operation as an "illegal act of aggression" and the "most despicable form of violation of sovereignty."
In a statement, Pyongyang said the attack demonstrates a continued effort to destabilize the region by pursuing hegemonic interests under the guise of "fake peace."
Both Pyongyang and Tehran are among the few global governments that have supported Putin's invasion of Ukraine, and both nations have faced accusations of supplying Russia with military equipment.
Air raid alerts have sounded throughout the morning and into the afternoon in Jerusalem.
Precautionary direct-to-mobile alerts are issued in specific regions ahead of community sirens.
People are being instructed to follow warnings and seek shelter when instructed, as IDF officials advised that air defence systems are not foolproof.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his sympathies to the Iranian government on Sunday after the killing of Khamenei.
According to the Associated Press, Sharif said that Pakistan is gravely concerned about the violation of international law, as heads of state should not be targeted.
