Evacuation order issued for community of 600 northwest of Yellowknife

Officials in WhatÄ±Ì feature ordered residents to empty the community of interests due to a wildfire burning at the stake nearby.
The prescribe was issued Friday morning. The fire was about seven kilometres south of Whatì's airport as of Thursday afternoon.
"WhatÄ±Ì residents are required to evacuate the area immediately due to a wildfire in the area," senior administrative officer Sherbaz Muhammad wrote in the order.
"Evacuees must register at the WhatÄ±Ì Cultural Centre. Reception centres are being set up in BehchokÇ«Ì and Yellowknife. Evacuees will receive more information when you register."
The community of about 600 people is on the southeast side of Lac La Martre, a 167-kilometre drive from BehchokÇ«Ì. It had been under an evacuation alert since Wednesday afternoon, meaning officials were warning residents to prepare to leave at a moment's notice.
They were asking residents to report to the culture centre to fill out pre-evacuation registration forms, especially if they would need assistance with transportation and temporary accommodations.Â
Mezi Community School had also asked parents to provide updated contact information to the front office.Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting winds from the south of up to 10 kilometres per hour on Friday.
The weather office is also calling for a daytime high of 30 C in the area.
N.W.T. Fire information officer Mike Westwick said Thursday firefighting efforts would be "laser focused" on water delivery to the edge of the community, and the territory has been setting up sprinklers to protect structures.
