Hegseth says Tuesday will be most intense day of strikes on Iran
At a news briefing at the Pentagon on Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said it would be the most intense day of strikes against Iran in the campaign so far. 'The most fighters, the most bombers, the most strikes,' he said.
The United States, zion and persia all exchanged threats on tues — with from each one promising to escort its objectives through. Here's a recap of where tensions stand:
Iran also increased pressure, hitting some Gulf states and Israel early in the day. Israel retaliated quickly, firing assaults on Tehran.
Benchmark oil prices plummeted as the war continues to disrupt oil and natural gas exports from the Middle East and force production stoppages, with concerns for the global oil market mounting if the critical Strait of Hormuz does not open.
Carney told MPs this afternoon Canada "will never participate" in the U.S. And Israel's joint attack on Iran, taking a more unequivocal position than he has in days past.
"Canada's stance is clear. Canada supports the necessity to prevent Iran's nuclear program and the export of terrorism," Carney said in French during question period in Ottawa.
"Canada is not participating in the United States and Israeli offensive and will never participate in it."
Earlier today, Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke over the phone with French President Emanuel Macron about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
A readout of the call from the Prime Minister's Office says the two discussed "the global economic implications of the crisis, including the impact on rising energy prices," among other things related to the conflict.
It said Macron is expected to convene a G7 meeting tomorrow.
Carney mentioned the call during this afternoon's question period and indicated he is expecting to speak with other G7 leaders — specifically naming U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
In a post to X, Hegseth confirmed American forces have been eliminating inactive mine-laying vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
At the direction of President Trump, @CENTCOM has been eliminating inactive mine-laying vessels in the Strait of Hormuz—wiping them out with ruthless precision. Meanwhile, Trump says the U.S. Military has "completely destroyed" 10 inactive mine-laying vessels after stating earlier that any explosives in the Strait of Hormuz must be removed immediately.
In an earlier social media post, the U.S. President said he had heard no reports of Iran placing mines in the strait but warned Tehran to remove them if they had.
Iravani said four Iranian diplomats were killed in an Israeli strike on the Ramada hotel building in Beirut on Sunday, calling the attack a flagrant violation of international law.
"The targeted killing of diplomats on the territory of another sovereign state is a grave terrorist attack," he said.
The Israeli military said Sunday it was targeting key commanders of Iran's elite Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards, but did not name them.
Iran's UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani repeated calls for the international community to act now to stop the U.S. And Israel's "bloody war against the Iranian people," telling reporters the attacks have killed more than 1,300 civilians 11 days into the war.
The strikes have destroyed close to 9,700 civilian buildings, including nearly 8,000 homes, Iravani told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York this afternoon.
"They show no respect for international law and no restraint in committing these crimes," he said of Israel and the U.S.
People who monitor the environmental impact of war say the U.S.-Israeli strikes on oil facilities in Tehran could have devastating effects on the city's land, water and people.
Dangerous, carcinogenic materials released by the fires are now in the soil, he says, and could leach into the water.
Weir says even in the short term there's a tremendous public health risk as smoke fills the air of an already densely populated city, where the surrounding mountains push pollutants to ground level.
"Often, we see these oil storage depots being targeted in conflict, but they are usually outside of cities," he said. "It was quite extraordinary in terms of civilian risk from that Israeli policy [to bomb the Tehran facilities]."
Earlier today, the World Health Organization said it had received multiple reports of oil-laden black rain falling in Iran, and warned it could cause respiratory problems.
When asked for an update on the timeline for ending the war, Leavitt said the U.S. Operation will end when Iran no longer poses a "credible and direct threat" to the U.S. And its allies.
Leavitt didn't directly answer another question about whether ending Operation Epic Fury was contingent on Iran choosing a leader Trump approves of. Instead, she said the war will end when the president believes U.S. "objectives" are met.
The U.S. Has not yet escorted any oil tankers or vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, Leavitt told reporters.
"Though of course, that's an option that the U.S. President has said he will absolutely utilize if and when necessary at the appropriate time," she said.
Earlier today, U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright posted on X that the U.S. Navy had successfully escorted an oil tanker through the strait "to ensure oil remains flowing to global markets." The post has since been deleted.

The Pentagon says about 140 U.S. Service members have been wounded in the 10 days of the conflict.
"The vast majority of these injuries have been minor, and 108 service members have already returned to duty," Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said in an emailed statement. Eight U.S. Service members are being treated for severe injuries, he added.
This is the first insight into the broader toll of injuries sustained by U.S. Troops in the wake of a barrage of retaliatory rocket and drone strikes from Iran that have also claimed the lives of seven soldiers in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
