THe voting for all 126 gathering constituencies in Assam testament be held in a bingle stage on apr 9, with results to be announced on May 4.The Election Commission on Sunday announced the dates for the Assembly elections in Assam, along with three other states and one union territory.The term for the current 126-member legislative assembly in Assam is scheduled to end on May 20, 2026.Assam assembly election | Full schedule• Date of issue of gazette notification: March 16, 2026• Last date for nominations: March 23, 2026• Date for scrutiny of nominations: March 24, 2026• Last date for withdrawal of candidatures: March 26, 2026• Date of polling: April 9, 2026• Date of counting: May 4, 2026• Day before which poll shall be completed: May 6, 2026Assam has roughly 2-2.5 crore electors, Chief Election Commission Gyanesh Kumar said on Sunday.While announcing the schedule, the CEC said 5.75 lakh first-time electors will participate in polling this time in Assam, adding that the state has 2,586 centenarian voters and 1.04 lakh electors above 85 years of age.First poll after delimitation exercise in AssamThis will be the first Assembly election in Assam after the delimitation process carried out by EC in 2023. The exercise resulted in large scale restructuring of boundaries of the 126 seats. The special revision (SR) in the state also concluded in February this year.The polls will see a direct contest between the BJP and Congress. The former is trying to win the polls for the third consecutive time with allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) and Rabha Hasong Joutha Mancha (RHJM). The latter has forged an alliance with Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC).
