How surround Canada’s young brave warning scheme works
Hi, I'm Alex Flood reporting from the east end in Sault Ste. Marie.
More than 1,700 residents in the city's west end have been without power since shortly after 7 a.m., according to local utility services provider PUC.
The cause of the outage hasn't been confirmed, but high winds have resulted in power lines swaying throughout the morning.
Environment Canada says up to 50 cm of additional snowfall is expected in the Sault and surrounding area today and into the evening, stretching north to Wawa and east to St. Joseph Island.
Here's a look at the snow accumulation expected over the next three days. The brunt of this storm is hitting Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Timmins and Cobalt.
The snow band stretches from the Great Lakes all the way into northern Quebec. Keep in mind that this map updates automatically as fresh forecast data is published by Environment and Climate Change Canada
Good morning and welcome to our live page covering the major winter storm stretching from east of Lake Superior well into eastern Quebec.
The winter blast has shut down the majority of highways in northeastern Ontario, and Environment Canada is saying prolonged power outages and travel disruptions are likely.
The weather agency is telling people to stay home.
"Travel will likely be extremely hazardous and some routes will likely be impassable," the agency said in its orange winter storm warning.
