More than 1,700 residents in the city's west end have been without power since shortly after 7 a.m., according to local utility services provider PUC.
The cause of the outage hasn't been confirmed, but high winds have resulted in power lines swaying throughout the morning.
Environment Canada says up to 50 cm of additional snowfall is expected in the Sault and surrounding area today and into the evening, stretching north to Wawa and east to St. Joseph Island.
Here's a look at the snow accumulation expected over the next three days. The brunt of this storm is hitting Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Timmins and Cobalt.
