Charlie Kirk's fatal shooting has left many questions unanswered, even as authorities continue their hunt for the assailant. The 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, and a Trump loyalist, was shot when attending an event at the Utah Valley University, in Orem, Utah.
Now, a former FBI agent, speaking to Canada's CTV News has said that the gun may have been set up beforehand.
Former FBI Agent Katherine Schweit, who reportedly spent 20 years with the bureau, theorized that the shooter would have used a sniper rifle or something similar, given that they were taking the shot from 200 yards away. She told CTV News that the weapon was ‘probably benched’ meaning it was ‘set down some place’.
The former agent told the news channel that the shooter wanted it to be a ‘certain kill shot' and showed a 'clear intent' to kill the individual ‘in a way the sniper would do that’.
The former agent shed some more light into how the incident may have gone down. According to Schweit, the shooter would have needed to get to someplace where they'd be undetected, and they'd have to set down the weapon at this spot. She went on to say that the shooter took their chance when Kirk was seated in one place, and then fired the shot.
The video showed Kirk sitting in a tent, when a bullet hits his neck from the side. Reports stated that Kirk was speaking about mass shootings in America before the gunman opened fire.
“Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America in the last 10 years?,” a person asked, as per videos circulating online. To this, Kirk replied “Counting or not counting gang violence?,” right before he was shot.
