Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during a public event at Utah Valley University, an incident that has sent shockwaves across the United States. Kelly announced the news of Kirk’s death during a live segment on her YouTube show, “The Megyn Kelly Show”.
In conversation with Glenn Beck, CEO of Blaze Media, during her live show, both Kelly and Beck were visibly emotional while discussing the early reports of his death. With tears in her eyes, she expressed sorrow for what the news meant for his family, supporters, and the political debates he inhabited.
“They are reporting that Charlie has died - that he’s dead, at the age of 31," Kelly said through tears. “There’s no way he survived that,” Beck said moments later. “The only goo thing is it had to have happened quickly,” he added.
According to reports, the shooting occurred during Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour,” while he was hosting a “Prove Me Wrong” booth where he often engaged in debates with attendees.
President Donald Trump later confirmed Kirk’s death, calling him “great, and even legendary,” and praised his connection with America’s youth.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,”Trump said in his Truth Social post.“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!” he added.
Kirk, 31, was the CEO and co-founder of conservative youth organisation Turning Point USA. He founded the organisation in suburban Chicago in 2012 at the age of 18, alongside tea party activist William Montgomery. He rose to prominence through his work with his organisation, holding events at college campuses across the country to promote conservative values to students.
Kirk was also a close ally of Trump and a staunch supporter of the Make America Great Again movement. The 31–year–old was shot while speaking on the campus of Utah Valley University. Authorities believe the shooter fired from a rooftop overlooking the courtyard. “Any additional clarifications cannot be provided to protect the integrity of our investigation,” a press release by the DPS said.
