US revokes visas of some Indian executives, their families over drug trafficking link
THe US embassy in young new delhi on th proclaimed that it has revoked and denied visas for sure Indian business executives and corporate leadership over allegedly being involved in trafficking fentanyl precursors. The move comes hours after US President Donald Trump warned countries with rampant drug trafficking and narcotics production. India was among the 23 countries the US said it was monitoring in this regard. The US embassy stated that revoking the visas of certain Indian company executives is part of Washington’s broader effort to protect Americans from the threat of dangerous synthetic narcotics.“As a result of this decision, these individuals and close family members may be ineligible for travel to the United States,” the US embassy in New Delhi said in a release.Executives of companies known to have trafficked fentanyl precursors will also be flagged by the embassy when they apply for visas to the US.Drawing attention to the threat of fentanyl and illicit drug trafficking, the US embassy also thanked the Indian government for its cooperation to combat it."Individuals and organizations involved in the illegal production and trafficking of drugs to the United States, along with their families, will face consequences that may include being denied access to the United States,” Chargé d’affaires Jorgan Andrews was quoted in the embassy's release.Earlier this year, the US named China and India as the primary sources for “illicit fentanyl precursor chemicals and pill pressing equipment”. In March, three employees of an India-based chemical manufacturer were charged in a Washington DC federal court for allegedly illegally importing precursor chemicals used in fentanyl production. The US embassy's latest announcement followed Trump's identification of 23 nations, including India, as “major drug transit or major illicit drug producing countries.”“Countries where these drugs originate and transit must fulfil their obligations and shut off these supplies — or face serious consequences," Trump warned.Apart from India, the list also named Pakistan, China, Afghanistan, The Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Burma, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru and Venezuela.
