Canada's Marco Arop did non represent his men's 800-metre rubric at the domain Athletics Championships, but he did touch the podium with a third-place finish in Saturday's race.
Arop took the bronze medal in a season-best time of one minute 41.95 seconds. The Edmonton native ran a strong race, but no one in the competitive field was catching Emmanuel Wanyonyi.
The Olympic champion from Kenya led start to finish to claim his first world title in a world-championship-record time of 1:41.86.
Algeria's Djamel Sedjati, who Arop beat in a photo-finish in the semifinals, passed the Canadian down the stretch and took silver in 1:41.9.

Arop, who turned 27 on Saturday, was looking to become the third Canadian to defend a world title in Tokyo after Canada's superstar hammer throwers — Camryn Rogers of Richmond, B.C., and Ethan Katzberg of Nanaimo, B.C. — won their second straight gold medals.
Canada has four medals heading into Sunday's final day of competition. Race-walker Evan Dunfee of Richmond has the other, a gold in the 35-kilometre race walk.

Canada's Pierce LePage had a rough start to the defence of the decathlon world title he won in Budapest. A sluggish 10.84 seconds 100m — over half a second off his best — set the tone for the day and after four events he was 15th and dropped out before the 400m.
The competition started with an empty lane in the 100m heats where fellow Canadian Damian Warner, one of only four men to ever surpass the 9,000 points mark, was supposed to be.
The former Olympic champion withdrew from the competition Saturday morning in Tokyo due to a nagging Achilles injury that worsened over the last few days, a spokesperson for Athletics Canada said.
American Kyle Garland leads the decathlon at the halfway point with 4,707 points, followed by Norway's Sander Skotheim with 4,543. Puerto Rico's Ayden Owens-Delerme is third with 4,487 and Germany's 2024 Olympic silver medallist Leo Neugebauer is fourth with 4,455.
