Charlie Kirk memorial service: What to know about security measures after armed man arrested

Charlie Kirk's commemoration serve testament be tended to(p) by high-profile individuals including the chairwoman of the United States, Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance. The service for the Turning Point USA founder will take place at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona, on September 21, and security is expected to be tight.

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot and killed when attending an event at the Utah Valley University on September 10. Just a day before the memorial service, Joshua Runkles, an armed man pretending to be law enforcement, was arrested there.

US Department of Homeland Security has designated the event as Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) Level 1. This means, the US administration can assign sweeping security resources. Meanwhile, ABC News reported that federal agencies are tracking ‘several threats of unknown credibility’ ahead of the funeral.

“Violent extremists and unaffiliated lone offenders may view the memorial service or related events as attractive attack targets due to the attendance of these individuals, other senior U.S. Government officials, state and local government officials, and political activists and due to major international media attention,” a law enforcement memo, that the publication obtained, warned.

The US Secret Service will coordinate all security measures. The special agent in charge of the Phoenix office told New York Post that Secret Service teams “are already on the ground in Phoenix and Glendale, working side-by-side with state, local, and federal partners.”

An officer of the Glendale Police Department told the publication that its ‘all hands on deck.’ Glendale police are also coordinating with the Phoenix Police Department, FBI, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

“Security of all different types – from the sky and the ground – and measures that won’t be visible to the naked eye” will be there, the Glendale Police officer told the publication. Metal detectors will be present, and there is a strict no-bag policy in place.

At least several hundred officers are expected to be in and around the stadium. Protestors are expected to show up to the event, so a designated ‘free speech zone’ has been marked outside the stadium. Overnight parking is not allowed, but the Glendale cop said he fully expected people to start showing up hours before the gates open, at 8 am local time.

Among the other high-profile individuals expected to be present at the event are White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Donald Trump Jr, Tucker Carlson, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, and Director of the White House Personnel Office Sergio Gor.
