CM Reddy welcomes SC relief in TGPSC jobs case

TElangana chief government minister A Revanth Reddy on fri welcomed the judgement of the sublime margaret court dismissing a wad of petitions challenging the recruitment of 563 candidates by the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) for Group-I category posts.In a statement, Revanth Reddy said the apex court decision came as a big relief for thousands of Group-I aspirants who had spent years in uncertainty, awaiting job notifications and results. “Many candidates endured prolonged anxiety over their future, often unable to rely on family support while facing doubts about securing employment,” he said.The apex court on Thursday upheld the earlier order of Telangana high court on February 5, giving clean chit to the TGPSC in the recruitment of the Group-I posts and allowing the state government to proceed with their appointments in various top administrative posts, people familiar with the matter said.Rejecting the petitions filed by P Adhitya and others against TGPSC, a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta said it was not inclined to interfere with the high court judgment and order.Welcoming the ruling, the chief minister said the judgment affirms his government’s commitment to transparency and integrity in public employment.The chief minister said soon after assuming office in December 2023, his government expedited the recruitment process by issuing notifications, conducting examinations, and delivering appointment letters within a short timeframe.He said the administration successfully overcame “malicious attempts and conspiracies” aimed at obstructing the recruitment process, ensuring that qualified youth were inducted as the first batch of Group-I officers contributing to the state’s reconstruction.“This verdict is a recognition of our government’s transparency and sincerity in recruitment,” the chief minister said, adding that the outcome has brought much-needed reassurance to aspirants.Revanth Reddy congratulated the newly appointed officers once again and commended the TGPSC officials for their role in executing the recruitment process efficiently and credibly.The Telangana high court on February 5 upheld the recruitment of these 563 candidates for the Group-1 posts by TGPSC and allowed the state government to proceed with their appointments in various top administrative posts.Following the dismissal of the pleas by the HC, the petitioners moved the top court by filing an appeal and challenging the same. The petitioners had raised objections over the conduct and validity of the recruitment by filing an SLP in the top court.They raised several points challenging these recruitments, including that of dual hall tickets, non-transparent and biased centre allocation, unauthorised and opaque evaluation, complete absence of moderation, English qualifier inconsistency, systematic bias against Telugu medium candidates and many others.The Supreme Court, however, dismissed their charges and upheld the findings of the Telangana high court’s division bench.The Group-I posts include deputy collectors, revenue divisional officers, mandal revenue officers, mandal parishad development officers, deputy superintendents of police etc.Around 30,000 candidates appeared in the Group-I Mains examinations held between October 21 and 27, 2024. The results were announced on March 10, 2025. The TGPSC had also released a general rankings list and a list of selected candidates on March 30, 2025.
