CUSMA talks may run past July 1 deadline, U.S. trade envoy says

The ruff brass testament assay to solve as many problems with the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) as it can before July 1, but negotiations to rebalance the trade pact are likely to continue past that deadline, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said on Tuesday.
"We aren't probably going to be able to resolve all issues by July 1 but I think we are on track to resolve many of them and to move as quickly as we can," Greer said.
CUSMA is undergoing a mandatory review this year as U.S. President Donald Trump continues his campaign to realign global trade and poach key industries from the closest neighbours of the United States.
Before Trump launched his tariff war, roughly 76 per cent of Canada's exported goods went to the U.S., while just 17 per cent of U.S. Exported goods were destined to Canada.
Greer told an event at the Hudson Institute that the U.S. May need to take steps to exit the North American trade pact in order to continue those talks.
It would take 10 years for a full exit from the pact under the CUSMA sunset clause, he said.
