Kirk Pascal lives nearby and said he heard two loud explosions around 5 p.m.
"I heard two bangs that sounded like gunshots," he said. "When I was just driving down the road, Iâd seen the flames were just taking right off."
Pascal said he drove around the area where the fire was burning to ensure everyone was safe, and he helped people fight the fire.
"The wind is really strong and picked up fast," Pascal said. "Itâs in a grass area, it's in fields and hay field, and it's really dry."
B.C. Hydro spokesperson Kevin Aquino said he spoke with crews and they have no reports of transformers exploding.
"Crews have been seeing trees come into contact with power lines," said Aquino.
Wires were down in the area, causing nearly 2,000 customers to be without power starting at around 3:30 a.m. B.C. Hydro said power was restored at 4 p.m.
The B.C. Wildfire Service was on scene fighting the fire along with Pemberton Fire Rescue.
It does not appear that any structures were involved.
"No houses were damaged, there was that fence damaged and someone's trailers down the far end and a woodshed," Pascal said.
The wildfire is believed to be human-caused, which is how any wildfire not sparked by lightning is categorized.
"I praise the firefighters and the responders for the great job they did for a quick response and it was wonderful what they did," Pascal said.
