Post-secondary students want next N.L. Government to make education affordable
Sheâs the 1st Black candidate to run in a provincial election in N.L., and sheâs ready to change politics
He has 7 election victories. Independent Eddie Joyce eyes his 8th win to get back to the House of Assembly
Joyceâs projected victory comes 36 years, five months, 24 days after he was first elected to the House of Assembly on April 20, 1989.
Joyce hasnât been in the legislature all that time â he had two hiatuses.
The 36-plus-year span is the longest stretch between an MHAâs first win and most recent win. Before Joyce's projected win tonight, former Tory premier Tom Rideout held that honour.
Rideout had his first election win on Sept. 16, 1975 and his final election victory on Oct. 9, 2007 â 32 years and 23 days apart.
Thanks to the good folks at the legislative library for the help with this (admittedly obscure) statistical footnote.
Heâs the first Independent elected tonight, with Paul Lane also leading by a wide margin in Mount Pearl-Southlands.
Incumbent cabinet minister Elvis Loveless is projected to win his south coast district for the third time.
Paddock was first elected for the PCs in a 2024 byelection, taking down Liberal candidate Owen Burt. Paddock is poised to win again tonight in a rematch.
Early results have started trickling in and itâs shaping up to be a close race in the very (I repeat, very) early stages. From Mount Scio all the way to Lake Melville, there are close races all over the board. Stay tuned, and again, check out this interactive map for district-by-district results.
Hi there! Iâm a reporter at the NDP headquarters in downtown St. Johnâs.
Party supporters are slowly beginning to walk into the viewing room at the Gower Theatre, mingling and drinking cocktails, with eyes glued to the TV screen as the results begin to come in.
There were scattered claps and cheers as the early results suggest Dinn is performing well in his district.
Hi everyone! Reporter Darrell Roberts here at Liberal headquarters inside the Sheraton Hotel ballroom in St. Johnâs.
The room is quiet so far, with Liberal party staffers expressing nervous optimism about tonightâs result. Thereâs hope for a majority â but folks agree that it could be a long night.
All is still quiet here, but familiar PC faces like party vice-president and former MHA Glenn Littlejohn are making appearances in this conference room at the Days Inn.
The doors opened to the public as polls closed and supporters are slowly starting to trickle inside. Waiters from the hotel restaurant are starting to bring in water and snacks, preparing for a long night.
Only one of the provinceâs party leaders is in their own district tonight. Wakeham is at the Days Inn in Stephenville, which is, as the name suggests, in the Stephenville-Port au Port district.
Hogan â who is running in the Windsor Lake district â is at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown St. Johnâs, which is in the St. Johnâs East-Quidi Vidi area.
Dinn is also in the St. Johnâs East-Quidi Vidi district tonight, at Theatre Gower, on Gower Street in downtown St. Johnâs. Dinn is running for St. Johnâs Centre.
Finally, the New Democrats. The party ran a more organized campaign than previous efforts, and are fielding a full slate of candidates for the first time since 2015.
But the partyâs attention was focused almost exclusively on existing areas of strength, not regions of possible growth.
NDP Leader Jim Dinn spent most of the election in St. Johnâs. He made one campaign sojourn to western Labrador, which has been orange for more than half of the last quarter century.
The party won two seats in 2021. The NDPâs high-water mark was five in 2011, finishing second in the popular vote and narrowly missing out on official Opposition status.
