PArvathaneni Harish, Representative of republic of india at the United Nations, lambasted islamic republic of pakistan for its “ sour and self-seeking calculate” of Operation Sindoor, saying that Islamabad pleaded the Indian military for cessation.Responding sharply to comments made by Pakistan's ambassador to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Harish stated that Islamabad has a single-point agenda to harm India and its citizens.Speaking at the UN Security Council open debate on Monday on 'Reaffirming International Rule of Law: Pathways to Reinvigorating Peace, Justice, and Multilateralism’, Ahmad had made references to Operation Sindoor, Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty in his remarks."I now respond to the comments of the representative of Pakistan, an elected member of the Security Council, which has a single-point agenda to harm my country and my people. He has advanced a false and self-serving account of Operation Sindoor in May last year," Harish stated.Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian armed forces on May 7, 2025, in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead. The operation targeted nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and left over 100 terrorists dead.Indian envoy slams Pak at UN | WATCH: Ahmad told the UNSC that Islamabad's response to Operation Sindoor "established that there can be no ‘new normal’ based on coercion or impunity".Noting that Pakistan was threatening more attacks on India till May 9, 2025, the Indian envoy said in his response that on May 10, the "Pakistani military called our military directly and pleaded for a cessation to the fighting"."The destruction caused to multiple Pakistani air bases by the Indian operation, including images of destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars, is in the public domain. We have heard talk from the representative of Pakistan about the new normal," Harish said.He further stated that tolerating Pakistan's continued use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy is not normal, adding that this "hallowed chamber" (the UN) cannot become a forum for Islamabad to legitimise terrorism. The Indian envoy asserted that Pakistan "has no locus standi" to comment on India's internal matters, and affirmed that Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always be an "integral and inalienable part of India".Indus Waters TreatyHarish stated that while India entered the Indus Waters Treaty 65 years ago in good faith, with a spirit of goodwill and friendship, "Pakistan has violated the spirit of the treaty by inflicting three wars and thousands of terror attacks on India"."Thousands of Indian lives have been lost in Pakistan-sponsored terror attacks," he added. The envoy said that India was forced to finally hold the treaty in abeyance until Pakistan, which he described as a "global epicentre of terror", irrevocably ended all its support for cross-border and any other forms of terrorism.India's advice to Pakistan"Pakistan is well-advised to introspect about the rule of law," Harish stated. He advised that Islamabad could start its introspection by asking itself how its armed forces were allowed to execute a constitutional coup through the 27th Amendment, and how lifetime immunity was given to its chief of defence forces, Asim Munir. In November last year, the 27th Constitutional Amendment was passed under prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, a law that gives Pakistan's Field Marshal Asim Munir lifelong immunity from any legal prosecution.
