According to a MacRumors report, the latest update introduces a new option allowing the Wake Up alarm in Sleep mode to override Silent Mode. Previously, with Silent Mode enabled, alarms would rely solely on haptic feedback, gently tapping the wrist to wake the wearer. However, this subtle approach often proved insufficient for heavier sleepers. With the new setting, users can opt for their alarm to produce sound alongside haptic feedback, making it significantly harder to ignore.
To activate the "Break Through Silent Mode" feature, users need to navigate to the Sleep app on their Apple Watch, select "Sounds & Haptics," and toggle the setting on. Alternatively, it can be enabled via the Alarm app by selecting an active alarm and adjusting the preference. Once switched on, the Apple Watch will audibly ring alongside vibrations, even when Silent Mode is engaged.
Beyond alarm enhancements, watchOS 11.4 extends support for Matter-compatible robot vacuum cleaners, offering better integration with smart home ecosystems. The update also resolves a frustrating issue that caused unresponsiveness when switching watch faces.
Reportedly, Apple has already seeded the release candidate of watchOS 11.4 to developers, marking the final pre-release version before the public rollout. Assuming no last-minute complications arise, the update is expected to launch in early April, potentially as soon as next week.
In a parallel development, Apple is also reportedly developing its first foldable iPhone, and one of its key suppliers stands to benefit significantly from the use of advanced materials in its construction.
According to TF Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the upcoming device is likely to incorporate liquid metal in its hinge mechanism, enhancing both durability and reducing the crease on the inner display.
