The 25 elite cops made it to SWAT after one year of rigorous training.The SWAT commandos have been trained on the lines of their American counterparts in handling assault rifles, grenades and carrying equipment including heavy body armour.Also Read: Who was Kajal? They have been trained in combat skills to handle crises, hostage and rescue situations.Their main assignment remains thwarting possible terror strikes. Armed with sophisticated weapons, the soldiers have shoot-to-kill orders in the event of a contingency.Though SWAT forms one of the crucial teams of the Delhi Police, the capital's police department has several other commandos.In 2018, the Delhi Police inducted an all-woman SWAT team comprising 36 commandos, the first-ever by any police force in India. The 36-women commandos underwent a rigorous 15-month training programme under the tutelage of National Security Guard trainers.
