Poilievre is only the second leader of the modern Conservative Party to face a leadership review. The first was Stephen Harper in 2005 after the party lost the 2004 election. Harper would secure his leadership in that review and went on to become prime minister.
After losing the 2019 and 2021 elections, respectively, former leaders Andrew Scheer and Erin O'Toole didn't hold onto the job long enough to face a review. Scheer initially indicated he would stay on but resigned less than two months after the 2019 election and O'Toole was forced out of the job by his caucus in early 2022.

The Conservatives' constitution says party members must decide at the first convention following an election "if they wish to engage the leadership selection process."
